This page is an overview of the CommCare Learning Tracks, and the CommCare Certification Program.

The information will be useful for anyone who is interested in learning more about how to use CommCare or wants to become certified in one of the CommCare roles.

What are Learning Tracks?

There is a lot to learn about CommCare and the Help Site has a lot of information - which is great, but can be very confusing navigate.

We have organized CommCare learning resources into modules on topics like Form Building and Mobile Worker Management. You can think of each of these as a "course."

Those modules of information are then organized into different tracks that build to more complex tasks.

These tracks will guide you through a series of modules to get you to a specific skill-set.

Learning Modules

Modules are the building blocks for learning how to use CommCare.

There is currently one available learning tracks. Click on the box to see the complete program details.

Future Tracks

These tracks are currently under development and should be available by summer 2015.

 

 

CommCare Certification

You can demonstrate complete knowledge of a particular CommCare by becoming "certified."  This means you will have to pass all of the tests associated with a learning track.

Certification Process

There are three main stages to the Certification process

A - Figuring out what to learn

There are a lot of components to CommCare and depending upon your role in a project you may require a specific combination.

You can decide what you want learn by exploring individual modules, or selecting a Learning Track.

If in doubt, we recommend you start with CommCare Fundamentals.

B - Learning and Practice

There are two main ways you can learn what you're interested in:

1. CommCare Community Resources

There are a lot of freely available tools to learn about CommCare.

  • Help Site - the CommCare Module Guide will help you find all the information you need on the help site
  • CommCare Users Group
  • Webinars
2. Dimagi Services

Dimagi's Global Services team has implemented 100s of CommCare projects. There are a range of different capacity building and training packages available if you have a team that is eager for hands-on or project specific training. For more information see the CommCareHQ main page.

C - Assessment

There are two stages of assessment.

1. Module Tests

If you want to test your knowledge, or validate the skills of a new colleague, there is a test available for each of the learning modules. The links to these tests are available in each of the module pages and are designed to ensure comprehension of the learning objectives. There is no charge to take these tests, but they are required in order to get a certification.

2. Capstone Exercises

Each of the learning tracks has a capstone exercise which will synthesize information across all of them and test your ability to apply them in complex situations.  These tests require working with a Dimagi field manager and are only available as part of a Dimagi service package at this time.

 

Certification FAQs

Q: Do individuals or organizations receive certifications?

A: All certifications are for individuals.

 

Q: Do certifications expire?

A: Certifications are good for 2 years; however because CommCare undergoes constant updates we may send you additional updates that we will trust you to learn about.

 

Q: I am the only one at my organization working on CommCare - do I need to complete all tracks?

A: It depends what you are doing. Look at the different tracks to determine what you want to do. There is some overlap between the tracks (i.e. CommCareHQ Overview is part of 3 Learning Tracks) so each subsequent track should be easier.
