This page is an overview of the CommCare Learning Tracks, and the CommCare Certification Program.

The information will be useful for anyone who is interested in learning more about how to use CommCare or wants to become certified in one of the CommCare roles.

What are Learning Tracks?

There is a lot to learn about CommCare and the Help Site has a lot of information - which is great, but can be very confusing navigate.

We have organized CommCare learning resources into modules on topics like Form Building and Mobile Worker Management. You can think of each of these as a "course."

Those modules of information are then organized into different tracks that build to more complex tasks.

These tracks will guide you through a series of modules to get you to a specific skill-set.

Learning Modules

Below is a list of all of the available learning modules. Click on the name in order to go to the page and access the complete list of knowledge points as well as a link to the test.

CommCare FundamentalsNone

CommCare Fundamentals will provide:

  • an introduction to the key terms associated with CommCare- a general overview of how the CommCare platform works
  • basic context which is relevant for anyone involved in a CommCare project.
CommCareHQ Basics
  • CC Fundamentals

After completing CommCareHQ basics you be able to:

  • Navigate the main sections of CommCareHQ
  • Configure project settings
  • Identify and use support resources
  • Move on to any other module that involves CommCareHQ
Form Builder Basics
  • CommCareHQ Basics

After completing Form Builder Basics you will be able to:

  • Comfortable navigate the form builder
  • Add, remove, and changing common types of questions
  • Create basic display and validation conditions
  • Describe the main sections of the Application Builder

CommCare Certification

You can demonstrate complete knowledge of a particular CommCare by becoming "certified."  This means you will have to pass all of the tests associated with a learning track.

Certification Process

There are three main stages to the Certification process

A - Figuring out what to learn

There are a lot of components to CommCare and depending upon your role in a project you may require a specific combination.

You can decide what you want learn by exploring individual modules, or by taking the assessment  **NEED TO DEVELOP THIS**

If in doubt, we recommend you start with CommCare Fundamentals.

B - Learning and Practice

There are two main ways you can learn what you're interested in:

1. CommCare Community Resources

There are a lot of freely available tools to learn about CommCare.

  • Help Site - the CommCare Module Guide will help you find all the information you need on the help site
  • CommCare Users Group
  • Webinars
2. Dimagi Services

Dimagi's Global Services team has implemented 100s of CommCare projects. There are a range of different capacity building and training packages available if you have a team that is eager for hands-on or project specific training.

C - Assessment

There are two stages of assessment.

1. Module Tests

If you want to test your knowledge, or validate the skills of a new colleague, there is a test available for each of the learning modules. The links to these tests are available in each of the module pages and are designed to ensure comprehension of the learning objectives. There is no charge to take these tests.

2. Capstone Exercises

Each of the certification tracks has a capstone exercise which will synthesize information across all of them and test your ability to apply them in complex situations.  These tests require working with a Dimagi field manager and are only available as part of a Dimagi service package at this time.
