To support organizations and governments with their ongoing COVID-19 response efforts, Dimagi is rapidly deploying free, pre-built COVID-19 tools for its platform, CommCare. To return to the main Home Page, please go to CommCare for COVID-19.
This page provides users with information about accessing data in CommCare for the pre-built COVID-19 tools and links to additional information about Data in CommCare.
Options for Accessing Your CommCare Data
After collecting data with a COVID-19 application, you can access the data in many ways:
View pre-built supervision reports.
Download your form data.
Download your case data.
Create your own reports using CommCare’s Report Builder.
If you have access to a CommCare subscription, you can integrate your CommCare data with many 3rd party analysis and visualization tools. See our integration options here.

Integrating your CommCare data with other systems
Want to connect the data collected in your CommCare COVID-19 application to another system?
CommCare is designed to easily fit into your data ecosystem. Leverage our flexible integration options to ensure you get the most value out of your COVID-19 data.
For more information about each of CommCare’s data integration options listed above, download the CommCare Data Integrations summary from our Integrations page.
CommCare’s integrations features require a paid software plan. Submit this form to request a pro bono plan that meets your data and integration needs.
Disclaimer: Configuring, debugging, and maintaining software integrations requires a certain level of technical expertise. We highly recommend you work with someone with this expertise if you’re going to explore an integration.
Your Integration Options
Ready to get started with your integration?
Check out this table for the information you need to set up integrations a few of the most commonly used reporting and analytics tools:
Method to integrate with CommCare
Connection with CommCareHQ data to download information in an Excel Spreadsheet. This solution is limited by the number of rows Excel can handle, usually around 200,000 items.
Designed for M&E advisors and program teams, the integration built atop the Odata feed creates a seamless data connection between CommCare and both Tableau and PowerBI. Without any IT support, everyone can now use and refresh their CommCare data in either of these popular business intelligence tools. The Odata feed integration is appropriate for up to 500,000 items.
For data sets over 500,000 cases or forms, use the commcare-export tool to automatically pull your form and case data from CommCare HQ and save it to a local database that feeds into your Power BI dashboard.
The Odata feed integration works exactly the same for Power BI as it does for Tableau. Check out our demo video for setting up an integration with Tableau.
For data sets over 500,000 cases or forms, use the commcare-export tool to automatically pull your form and case data from CommCare HQ and save it to a local database that feeds into your Tableau dashboard.
The MOTECH Platform is an open source enterprise software package that connects popular eHealth technologies. MOTECH currently supports two ways of integrating CommCare with DHSI2: Forwarding aggregated data as DHIS2 DataSets; and forwarding form question values as DHIS2 Anonymous Events.
Use the commcare-export tool to automatically pull your form and case data from CommCare HQ and save it to a local database, then connect your favorite BI tool to that database.
See the full list of APIs available for accessing various parts of CommCare HQ.
Event-based solution in which CommCare forwards data (forms, cases, locations, users) to a Webhook
commcare-export is a command line tool that will automatically pull your form and case data from CommCare HQ and save it locally, typically to either an Excel spreadsheet or to a local database (like MySQL). You can configure it to pull data on a schedule to automatically keep your data up to date, or run it as a one-time data dump.
Zapier can be used with CommCare to trigger 100s of actions based on incoming CommCare form submissions or case modifications.
OpenFn is an integration platform designed specifically for the social sector. The platform is ideal for non-tech teams. Check out this OpenFN demo video on Getting started with your integration.
You can find our full range of integration options and links to their documentation on our CommCare Ecosystem page.
There are a lot of options for connecting your CommCare data to 3rd party reporting and analytics tools. Here are some common integrations our clients use to make the most of their CommCare data.
CommCare + Power BI
Through our Odata Feed integration, you can create a seamless data connection between CommCare and both Power BI and Tableau.
Hear from our partners at PCI Global and Catholic Relief Services who use our Odata Feed integration with Power BI to bring their CommCare data to life.
CommCare + DHIS2
Dimagi’s MOTECH platform allows CommCare and DHIS2 to work together to provide an end-to-end solution for mobile data collection, aggregation, storage, and reporting at any scale.
MOTECH can be leveraged to connect your CommCare COVID-19 template application data to the DHIS2 COVID-19 Surveillance Digital Data Package - a digital data package to accelerate case detection, situation reporting, active surveillance and response for COVID-19.
